Misunderstanding. Resentment. Frustration. Worry. Doubt. Adolescence is one of the most challenging times of life – we experience changes in our bodies, our minds, our moods at a rapid, hard-to-keep-up-with pace while we try to get through the pressures of day-to-day life. All these changes have an impact on us and on the people close to us; sometimes others don’t respond the way we need them to. It’s not an easy time.
I have great respect for adolescents; in my work with them, and if so desired, their families, I focus on acknowledging experiences without blame or judgment and on developing new ways to talk about the hard stuff so that all involved feel heard.
